The Jablonic Boat Fund

UW's First Permanent Boat Fund Endowment at the UW Foundation

Structured for the Acquisition of a New Eight-Oared Shell for the UW Men's Crew - Approximately Every 5 Years

*******

It is a pleasure to advise that - in conjunction with the September 3, 2004
induction of Coach Randy
Jablonic into the UW Athletic Hall of Fame, teammates, student-athletes, friends, coaching colleagues, UW crew supporters and family of Coach Jablonic have made contributions and pledges sufficient to create the Jablonic Boat Fund (the "Fund") at the UW Foundation.

When the Fund's pledge commitments fully convert to cash contributions and the balance reaches $125,000 in early 2006, the Fund's Representatives, Fred Robertson and Brad Taylor, will arrange for the purchase of the first eight-oared racing shell for the varsity, which will be named after Coach Jablonic.

Under the Fund's structure, interest and other accrued earnings on the remaining balance of the Fund will accumulate continuously until the balance again reaches an amount allowing the purchase of another eight- oared racing shell. The principal of $100,000 will remain to repeat the process again every 4 to 6 years.

This Fund is a precedent-setting concept for men's crew at Wisconsin.  Ideally, if five such funds could be created, the men's crew program could reasonably plan to acquire a new eight every year in perpetuity. Alternatives to such a boat fund are donations and bequests to the "Mike Murphy Endowment Fund for Men's Crew" at the UW Foundation named after Wisconsin crew coach George "Mike" Murphy (coached in Madison from 1928 to 1934) - an existing general purpose endowment fund for supporting the men's rowing program at UW.

Thanks to over 100 donors, we have created this first-of-a-kind fund at the UW Foundation. Your generosity not only honors Coach Jablonic, but also strengthens the long-term financial underpinnings of the men's crew program at Wisconsin.

For those who still would like to get on board and support the cause, contributions (payable to "UWF - Jablonic Boat Fund") and pledges through 2006 can be advised to: Director of Development, UW Foundation, P.O. Box 8860, Madison, WI 53708-8860. A plaque listing the 100+ donors is planned for unveiling at the dedication of the first shell in the spring of 2006.
